IT One Innovation Awards 2015

40 University students selected from over 150 applications competed for 175,000 cash prize in an IT business case competition.

Bangkok; September XX, 2015 – IT One recently held its fifth annual “IT One Experience” competition with 40 university students participating in a one day, skills-based event designed to enhance their business and entrepreneurial competencies. Solving case studies simulated from real-life IT consulting work, students were given hands-on experience to IT One’s consulting practices and world-class IT solutions delivery methodology.

Participants represented several leading universities including Chulalongkorn University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Thonburi, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Kasetsart University, Thammasat University, and Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology. The winning team consisted of 4 participants from Kasetsart University, Chulalongkorn University and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.

Students were tasked with three business cases for this year’s program, with an emphasis on Digital and the extent to which it has become a core part of everyday business. While designing the best solutions and user friendly interfaces, participants must also take into account mobile device applicability. The three business cases presented were:

  • Future Store – Initiate a new shopping experience utilizing Digital technologies for customers
  • Contact Center Application – Assist clients in designing a holistic new contact center platform, consolidating all contact center applications and contact channels in one database with an analytical report that can be extracted from each application.
  • Master Data Management Solution – A scenario is presented in which a client’s existing application for managing master data is out of date. The challenge is to develop a new Master Data management system with full cross-platform synchronization capabilities.

All the participants were assigned to carefully study the proposal requirements, assess strategy impacts, pros and cons of the their proposed approach, create an application architecture, and design a user interface with a simple and clear storyboard within a given time of three hours.

All the teams were judged according to the 4 essential skills required for career-building success: “Systematic Thinking” – logical and analytical train of thought; “Issue-based Thinking” – the ability to adapt methodologies to the practical problem on hand; “Communication Skills” – Being persuasive and credible in conveying the appropriate messaging; “Team Impact” – working in unified fashion with teammates with different backgrounds.
